Grand Teton National Park - Never Disappoints

Our visit to Grand Teton National Park was in early fall, and it truly lived up to its reputation. We spent six nights between two campgrounds—enjoying the convenience of full hookups at Colter Bay, but finding the dry camping experience at Gros Ventre on the south side far more memorable. The charm of nearby Jackson, with its many dinner options, and the shrinking waters of Jackson Lake to the north, tipped our preference toward the south.

Wildlife here plays by its own rules—you never know where they’ll be or what they’ll do. You might spend hours watching elk or moose resting in the sagebrush, seemingly doing nothing. But luck was on our side. Near Gros Ventre Campground, we picked the exact direction a big bull elk was headed and, within an hour, captured some of the most engaging moments of the trip.

The park’s scenic spots are endless, and we often found ourselves alongside fellow photographers and photo tours in the soft light of early morning. Our favorite moment came at Willow Flats Overlook, where—hidden in the frame—three cow elk were visible only to those present.
